| Description: | I cry inside, I mourn but this is the way of things. Unsurprisingly, when Professor Wright crossed, I happened to be coaching/accompanying a student singer on an early Renaissance piece I discovered in his UAF music history class. Gord instilled not only this composer's passion for music history but so much more. He profoundly influenced my conception of 'quality' when he humbly encouraged I read Persig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". He quietly gave me a peerless example of what it means to 'wholly' mentor a music student even one as immature, self absorbed, cynical and haughty as I was when I entered his class. Only a week ago, still ignorant of Gord's crossing, I was humbled to recognize I'm now doing for others what Gord and many since have done for me. This is the way of things. Torches are passed, some publicly, some privately. The best way to remember the Gordon Wrights in our lives is to continue selflessly and gently teaching others as they once did us. Kee |
