A Scotch with a darker color typically indicates something clever is going on, usually in a cask of something other than the fine American whiskey (sp) casks that do most of the work in maturing a fine Scotch. The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is indeed a clever Scotch as it mixes American Oak with Portuguese Ruby Port Pipes as part of maturation process. As a fan of these "clever" whiskies, as with the Oban Distiller's Edition and the Balvenie Doublewood, I was excited to give the Quinta Ruban a try..
